Previous to this in October of 1916 he was wounded by an enemy and then evacuated to a Berlin hospital. After Hitler was released from prison he decided to take control of power constitutionally rather than by force of arms. Hitler spoke to scores of mass audiences. He called for German people to resist the yoke of Jew’s and communists, and for them to create a new empire which would rule the world for 1,000 years. Hitler was in the Nazi party. In the 1930 elections Hitler’s party captured 18 percent of the popular vote. Hitler ran for president in 1932. Hitler won 30 percent of the vote. This forced the Paul von Hindenburg eventual winner in to a run off election. A deal was made that Hitler would become chancellor. But in order for this deal to work Hitler would have to give Paul von Hindenburg his political support. He was appointed as chancellor in January 1933. When Hidenburg died in August 1934, Hitler was the successor. With an improving economy, Hitler claimed credit and consolidated his position as a dictator, having succeeded in eliminating challenges from other political parties and government institutions. The German industrial machine was built up in preparation for war. By 1937, he was comfortable enough to put his master plan, as outlined in Mein Kampf, into effect. Calling his top military aides together at the "FAhrer Conference" in November 1937, he outlined his plans for world domination. Those who objected to the plan were dismissed.
