We have sympathy with Ted when he is faced with all these new for him tasks, like housekeeping, shopping and most important - taking care of Billy. The film has a lot of touching and heart-warming scenes as Ted slowly learns how to be a father. With time he achieves perfection in preparing french toast for breakfast, which almost caused a fire outbreak when he did it for the first time. My favourite scene is when Billy makes his father boil with anger when he wants to eat ice-cream instead of dinner. But Ted knows his limits and never goes too far. He becomes a really good father and he enjoys it very much, even if it cost him his job and career. Dustin Hofmann and Justin Henry are excellent and incredibly true in their roles. They deserved the Oscar nominations and Hofmann, in fact, got his award. Mery Streep‘s performance was also worthy of an Oscar, although we get her to know very late.
