Oregon – April 2005 said yes to Civil Union New York – no to same-sex marriages, but couples married in other states are also considered married under New York law and must be given all the rights and protection of different gender marriages. Same-sex couples should be allowed to marry and if not marriage then they should be allowed some type of union because they are human beings and if animals can get married why shouldn’t they. Just because they are from the same-sex doesn’t make their love any different from the love of a heterosexual couple. Gay people should be allowed to raise their own biological children even if they are involved in a same-sex relationship. Just because they are gay doesn’t mean that they are exempt from raising their child. I understand that some people might think that the child is going to grow up confused or even gay but I don’t feel that way because all the gays in the world came from a heterosexual home setting. So the fact that the parent is gay has nothing to do with raising a child. We are always complaining that men are never there for their children once they divorce the kids’ mother, so why should we take this responsibility away from them just because he/she is gay. If the other parent is not capable of taking care of the children or is deceased then the other parent should have all the rights of raising the children regardless of what their sexual preference might be. A parent is a parent no matter what. By not allowing gay people to raise their children we are discriminating against them and we are teaching these kids the same thing. Now, I have mixed feelings when it comes to gay people adopting children. Why? Because on one hand these adoption will give these children a home, a family but on the other hand wouldn’t this mess up the child, seeing that his parents are of the same gender when all the other children have parents of different gender. You are probably thinking that I’m contradicting myself with what I said earlier in the paragraph about people that think like that, but there is a big difference here and that is that in the first case about gay people raising their children the children know that they have one mom and one dad. In the adoption case these kids are going to have either 2 moms or 2 dads and it won’t be easy for them specially when they go to school and other kids start making fun of them because they don’t understand the fact that they don’t have a mom and a dad. I don’t think men and women should be allowed to marry more than one partner of either sex at the same time. Why? Because that means more children then what they can support. How are they going to support the family? Women might have if easier in the sense that she has more than one husband and she won’t have to work. Another thing is that men can’t handle the one woman they marry imagine having two or more nagging at the same time and for women to marry so many men will be seen as a whore. I was surprised to know that there was a case of polygamy right here in the United States. This happened in Utah. A man by the name of Tom Green had 5 wives and 25 children. In 2001 he was convicted on 4 charges of bigamy and one of criminal non-support and was sentenced to serve 5 years in prison for each charge. Some countries that allow polygamous marriages are Africa, Canada’s British Columbia and Turkey. In the United Kingdom polygamous marriages are not allowed but they do recognize marriages from countries where polygamy is allowed, provided that non of the spouses were domiciled in the United Kingdom at the time of the marriage. The religions that allow polygamous marriages are Islamic, Christians, Mormons, Jews, Muslims and at one time Hinduism also allowed polygamy but not any more. I think that human beings are capable of engaging in a diversity of sexual behavior even though they may not abandon the “labels” they have placed upon themselves. It is seen a lot these days when straight men and women have some type of sexual contact with someone of their own gender and they just consider it an experiment, they were just curious of what it was like. We even see it on T.V. shows and movies, these actors/actresses will play homosexual or bisexual roles and have kissing or other type of intimate scenes and not drop their labels. The most same-sex activity you will see on T.V. is with females.
