I have always believed that graphic organizers, mind maps, and other visual diagrams are excellent learning tools that help develop essential study skills such summarizing, synthesizing, and comparing and contrasting. A graphic organizer provides an intense visual picture of information that allows the mind to clearly see patterns and relationships. Graphic organizers help students by coercing them to really “think” about what they read and assists them in organizing their thoughts. There are many different types of graphic organizers that we use in the educational field, all which can be created through the Inspiration software. This program also allows teachers and students to create outlines from their organizers (or visa versa). I find this technique very useful.
