A Comparison of a Tell-tale Heart and A Confession Found In A Prison

Both are written with no specific setting, though it is obvious that they are both in the same sort of time period, perhaps sometime in the 1800’s In the Tell-tale Heart there was no obvious motive apart from the old mans ‘evil eye’ which apparently drove him insane, or that he was already insane but that only made it worse. In a confession found in a prison it is very much the same reason, though this time it is the boy’s mother who starts it. This woman had always looked at the murderer in a strange way and it worried him greatly, again the murderer has something against her eyes but when the woman dies, it is her son who is sent to the murderer-to-be to be looked after who actually drives him insane. In both stories, the speed of the decision to kill is very slow in coming, gradually building up to the point when they decide, also, just before they both commit the crime, something goes wrong so they both have to quickly change the plan on the spot. For the Tell-tale heart it is that the old man wakes up, and in A confession it is that the boy see’s the mans reflection in the pond he’s about to be pushed into. In the Tell-tale Heart the killer feel’s very guilty about killing the old man, but also very confident that he wouldn’t be caught at the start.
