prosecution speech
.... Surely any body in their right mind would have the decency and respect to not behave in such a manner at a time of mourning for their mother. There is no doubt that someone who behaves, feels and acts in such inhumane ways is quite capable of murder without hesitation. Gentlemen of the jury there is a strong link between someone who would not cry at their mother’s funeral and associates with unsavoury characters (P.I.M.P.’s, other existentialists) and someone who should be sentenced to death for murder because they are a threat to society. The defence would have you believe gentlemen of the jury that the accused “was not himself” for the moment that Mr. Habib was shot. Well maybe there would be a slight possibility of that happening if he shot the victim once, but to fire another four bullets at a lifeless body really must take a little more than that. The defence have also suggested that that the accused had diminished responsibility as a result of his mothers’ death. Well surely if that was the case he would have to some sign of sadness towards the matter, as seen earlier that is not the case. There is also the defence that this criminal was acting in self defence. Self defence is when one acts with an amount of force that is to protect oneself from the threatened actions of another person. Gentlemen of the jury as I recount the events of that fatal day I ask that you to try point out any reasons why this animal should be proven innocent. The beginning of Mr. Meursaults corrupt actions a few hours prior to the fateful moment involved the accused along with Raymond violently provoking the victim to the extent that Raymond wanted to kill him, but was talked out of it by Mr. Meursault who then took the gun and placed it in his own pocket. This blood thirsty animal later returned to the beach knowing very well that there provoked adversaries would still be there, when Mr. Meursault saw Mr. Habib and put his hand in his pocket they were such a far distance away from each other that he could have simply turned and removed himself from the situation. That is quite the opposite to what Mr Mersault continued to do, he did not remove himself from the situation, simply because he had the intent to injure Mr. Habib. The accused eventually fired a shot at the victim, he then paused and fired again, again, again and once more at the lifeless body. The first shot was alone enough for this monster to be executed, but to fire another four bullets really shows how little this man respects human life. Five shots. As presen...
