This position gives someone with traits of family values and an advocacy for children the authority of knowing the concerning issues. Cleaver uses ethos to reach out to the public, specifically parents, as an educated professional to speak out to the government and to try to have laws passed that will protect the children. In addition to her credibility, using logos, Cleaver states “Pornography is the third largest sector of sales on the Internet, generating $1 billion annually (620).” She also explains how the Washington Post claims that the internet is the largest pornography store. Which is worrisome because the internet can be accessed from the home with little chance of being caught. Cleaver's use of pathos is probably the most effective device she uses to create fear and shock in the audience of exactly what is going on on the Internet. The real life situations she uses are startling and put an impression in everyone's mind of what could happen not only to adults but also to innocent children.
