"Abortion in todays Society"

... life of the mother and cause further problems later in life. “Abortion has been a legal procedure in the United States since 1973” (Davidson). However, many women still do not know about the dangers that are involved with abortion procedures. They don’t know that abortions can be very dangerous to their health. When a woman is determining whether an abortion is something that she really wants to do or not, she should look at the different types of risks that are linked to abortions. Such risks include allergic reactions to anesthesia and infection by germs in the uterus. Regarding allergic reactions, women should be open and honest with their doctor about the types of medication that they are currently taking. Sometimes, these women believe that if they tell the doctor about the different types of medication that they are taking, the doctor will give this information to someone else. Women have to remember that their doctor, or any doctor, has to keep this type of information confidential according to the law. In regards to infection, “In many cases, the infection is a flareup of a preexisting sexually transmitted infection. Fewer than one out of 100 women who have abortion become infected. Considering the number of women who conceive each year, which is in the thousands, to have such close ratios is alarming. “Clots that may cause severe cramping occur in about one out of 100 abortions. The clots are usually removed by a repeated suction curettage”(http://www.ppca.org/abortion/healthrisk.html ). As serious as this may sound, there is another health risk that can prove to be even more serious. There have been instances when an abortion has been performed, only to find out later that all of the fetal tissue has not been removed from the mother. When this occurs, the mother can have excessive bleeding and even infection. The bottom line is that women can never be totally sure that an abortion will not cause a severe health risk. The tissues of the uterus can also be scarred during an abortion. Because of the fact that the embryo is attached to the lining of the woman’s uterus, it only makes sense to determine that when the embryo is suctioned out, some of the tissue from the mother’s uterus goes along with it. This in turn causes the scarring that is familiar to many women who have discovered that they have to wait to...
