Historical Perspective

To understand the purpose of each event students can use historical perspective. When a student is taught history, they are discovering the past, and it essentially creates a sense of loyalty for that person’s homeland. History is very easily manipulated for the purpose of creating nationalism. Historians will often create a situation in which there standpoint convinces you to agree, and can eventually lead to nationalism. Whenever you visit different places, you will continuously notice the different perspectives and how they affect the people within those places. When an event takes place that is classified as horrible with in a country or civilization, the people within that place will typically unite against the opposing force, thus creating nationalism. When students study history and learn about this nationalism, it often creates a sense of loyalty within them for their home. By studying history and/or your nation’s historical perspective, students become closer to their country than before. For instance, after the event of 9/11, many people united and came together because their country suffered a great loss. When American students look back on that day years from now, they will feel compassion, and with this compassion will come the loyalty to the country. The reason most students would feel loyal is because sometimes when you learn more about one place it makes you feel closer and it helps you understand that time period. The closer you feel to your nation, the more loyal you will feel. To understand why the world is the way it is today, students must, again, turn to historical perspective. History is the memory of living yesterdays and the promise of predictable tomorrows. History deals with everything that happens to man. It deals with people both humanistically and scientifically. The past causes the present, and so when changes occur, you can look back on the past for the answers. When a lifestyle changes over many of years, history is the only way to figure out the causes and effects of actions. When you look at the Renaissance, that was a very huge turn around for Europe.
