...o where they built the city of Tenochtitlan. Their lives revolved around agriculture and maize, their primary food. It could grow in many places and helped them to settle vast amounts of territory. The Aztecs came to sort of worship maize. They had complex systems of irrigation that helped them to farm large crops. Aztec life was very structured, and very family based. The members of a family each had jobs. Mothers were housewives and fathers were teachers and providers while children performed various duties. The Aztecs had a formalized education system in which children attended. Boys also received military training. The Aztec were a very militaristic society, but were also quite civilized. They had a very impressive society at the peak of their civilization. Their system of government seemed to work, and they became very prosperous people. This leads me to believe that had their civilization not been impeded by Spanish colonization, they would have a very interesting society today. Macaulay published the first two volumes of History of England in 1848 and had written it in a way that the general population at the time could easily relate to and understand. The fact that Macaulay’s History was easily read does nothing for its historical accuracy. Two more volumes were published and by this time the public had become familiar with Macaulay’s style, and were able to point out fallacies and errors.
