...ther feminists claim, that the writing isn’t that much different, but the choices made on what female and make students write about is the main difference. “There are Predictable choices of masculine and feminine topics” write Elizabeth Flynn (123). Women write more often about relational topics, and men focus on the self. “Writing collaboratively challenges the notion of an isolated and autonomous self and replaces it with a multivocal, relational writing process.”(124) This could be the key to the two forms of masculine and feminine writing come together. I also agree that men and women write differently, and I think its just how we are raised, and the stereotypes that society puts on us. As young men we are told to be tough, play sports and be aggressive. If you want something go and get it. Women are taught to be sensitive and caring, to be in touch with their feminine side. You can see it in your classroom. The male speakers dominate most of the conversation in class. We are more aggressive to have our say heard, understood and agreed with. While the female students will generally take a backseat, and not force their opinions, even though they are just as valid. Another pint that was brought up was the two extreme writing styles that females will take. The will either be very smooth and objective, or one that obscures the speaker. I think this also has to tie into the aggressive nature of men and women. Some women see writing as their time to be aggressive and objective, while others do not want to step put of their “role,” as feminine. Elizabeth Flynn brought up the good point that men will more often write about the self, and women will write about relational topics. This is another good point of women not willing to put themselves in the spotlight, or not wanting to be recognized. I bring up sports as another good example. Coaching and playing volleyball I have noticed two completely different forms of team and personal spirit.
