Douglass wasn’t going to let that stop him, so he began to learn how to read and write, which I think is a great accomplishment for a slave. Another thing that he has been through is seeing his fellow slaves, and even his family punished cruelly and with no sympathy. I just don’t see how people could be so heartless. Even though, Douglass is still doing an outstanding job of keeping out of trouble and learning to read and write.
