The writers wrote in various literary forms, languages, and they use various historical settings that they found themselves in. Dei Verbum inserts and makes it very clear that the reader must put themselves in the shoes of the writer and try to understand that given the particular time, place, historical and cultural setting, what the writer is trying to say. Dei Verbum starts of the bible and it mainly focuses on divine revelation and Christian morals. The man goal of the document is to encourage the flourishing in Christians of the virtues of faith, hope, and love. Some of the document focuses on faith since God’s word is received only in faith. Dei Verbum tries to take special care to vindicate the authenticity of the portrayal of the history of Jesus in the Four Gospels. When we look to Jesus as revealed in the Gospels and the Bible as the supreme model of what it is to be truly moral, we cannot help but focus on the Sermon of the Mount as recorded in Matthew.
