...ad to step up and take responsibilities around the house, something a sixteen-year-old doesn’t want to do, but I had no choice. I knew that if my mom were going to do this she would need my help and assistance as much as possible. The hardest part for me was not the responsibilities because that is just something that happens in life, but it was not having my mom around all the time. I had to learn what life was line on my own. Life has forever changed in my family. As all of our friends and even my father would celebrate with alcohol on occasions, we would all be careful not to leave my mom out and make she was okay with being in a situation where there was alcohol. My mom had to be able to resist the temptation and it took sometime before she would be around certain people or she was comfortable telling people she was an alcoholic. Almost everyone was as shocked as I was wen she told them, but now we have to live with this label that mom is an alcoholic. This was very different.
