Ceasar Augustus and His People.
... to read and fight.At this time in Octavius's life not much had happened regarding his coming to power.The closest thing he had to power was a great uncle who was the great general Julius Ceasar,but the two had never met.This would soon change with the death of Octavius's grandmother,Ceasar's sister(Grabsky63).It was at the funeral ,that Caesar noticed Octavius had a way with words and that he was not afraid to show it(Grabsky63).Shortly after the funeral,Octavius was asked to become part of Caesar's army.The boy gladly accepted, despite the wish of his mother ("Augustus").It was around this time that Caesar was assassinated.Octavius quickly left his post to attend the funeral,where he was informed that Caesar had left all his inheritance to him("Augustus").When the boy took power,the senate was furious for not only was Octavius trying to rule,but was also Caesar's right hand man Mark Antony.Octavius was a clever boy,so he made a deal with the senate to help them get rid of Antony,but as soon as he got the chance,Octavius allied with Antony and demolished the senate(Grabsky64).Antony, Octavius,and another powerful man named Lipidus then took control of Rome,forming what is known today as the Triumvirate.After a few successful years of ruling Rome,the Triumvirate began to fall apart.Octavius and Antony eliminated Lipidus,and things between the remaining two got messy because Antony left Octavius's sister in order to be with the former Caesar's lover,Cleopatra(Greenblatt16). Soon Antony and Cleopatra killed themselves for fear of having worse done to them by Octavius.Now that Octavius was sole ruler of Rome what would he do? Since Octavius took out the senate,the people of Rome were uneasy.The senate was their only protection from a dictator taking power.Octavius established a new senate for the people,and he made sure the senate was with him all the way,reducing an attempt of assassination(Grabsky75).After he rebuilt the senate,he began to work on the city itself.Octavius had nice houses and public baths with plumbing constructed(Grabsky83).Octavius also had a giant oval-shaped arena...
