Large companies and menial, remedial jobs also stifle the creativity of each individual. These jobs clone each worker, implicating that they are all expendable, replaceable at any given moment. Their inventions are not valued; their intellectual capabilities completely disappear while refolding an endless pile of shirts or restocking the white grape juice on aisle five. They become discouraged and a feeling of hopelessness disheartens them. Their identity becomes wrapped up in Wal-Mart, Kroger, and Target, Inc. And becoming part of the corporate identity is all that matters, and the “innermost self” (59) of the worker, the individuality of the husband, daughter, or grandmother is completely lost. Their character is stifled in the “repetitive” (106) nature of the work. All the life is taken out of each person, and all of a sudden, they all look and act the same.
