Below there!” This is an interesting way to start a story, by using exclamatory tone and volume it adds a sense of drama and mystery , it has the reader hooked immediately and wanting to know where the shouting is coming from and who is he shouting to, which makes the reader want to read on. Also in conclusion to my last point “the signalman” seams usual because when he hears the shouting he looks in in the total opposite direction “I stood on the top of the step cutting nearly over his head, he turned himself about and looked down the Line.” I think this quote creates suspense and confusion because u want to know why he’s looking down the opposite way and if there is something else down there.
