Discuss the ways in which Dickens and Collins create an aire of suspense and mystery in these stories

... In both stories an eliment of interaction between real and supernatural characters occurrs. These supernatural characters warn of forth cumming disasterous events. The difference in the interactions of the two stories is that in "The Signalman" this interaction occurrs directly with the stories victim whilst he is awake and in "The Ostler" the interaction occurs whilst the main character is in a deep sleep. In brief the story of "The Signalman" is about a rail signalman who see's an aparition, and following each visitation a disasterous event happens. Whilst trying to make sence of these occurances the signalman encounters a visitor who he shares his experiances with. The two agree about the strangness of these events however both struggle to make sence of them. At the conclusion of the story the true meaning of these visitations become apparent and we realise that as well as predicting inpending fates of others the aparition warns directly the signalman, this warning not being understood is ignored with fatal consequence for the signalman.
