...didn’t. I read of how he somehow managed to run under a moving train just to be accepted. This is very unrealistic to me for numerous reasons. One, a kid is fast but not as fast as a moving train. Two, the kid made it unscathed. This means he dove under the train without touching the ground and managed to navigate under the train and land on his feet without a scratch…highly unlikely. Another thing that bothered me was that he did this all to join a group. To me he needs to grow a backbone and stand tall to what’s right for him. In regards to the essay assignment in the book; I think I would react much differently than the kid. I would have a backbone no matter my age and realized that joining a group wasn’t worth losing my life. I did not cherish being in a group like this kid. I was once told I had to swim across this one river to play man hunt in the woods with these kids. I noticed that the river was very fast moving so I chose not to do the stunt so I didn’t play the game. I was upset but knew I chose right. I have always been an independent person. I like to do what I want, either if it follows the group or not, I just like to be me. Young people now-a-days see what people call “cool” on TV and try everything they can to become cool.
