Euthanasia:killing mercifully or killig cloaked in mercy?
...ingly,it is necessary for us to investigate this issue from the moral and utilitarian aspects anew. First and foremost,what we concern mainly is whether euthanasia,as a new medical means,measures up to the moral standards set by ourselves.Is it moral for any doctor to kill his patients with his own hands,rather than to assist their recovery?Or,is it moral for any family member to allow any doctor to end up his or her beloved one intentionally?Facing these rigorous questions,maybe we should redefine the definition of “morality”in this specific medical context initially.Admittedly,any human being has the right to live as a human being.That’s to say,anyone has the right to live with dignity at least.And undoubtedly“morality”in the medical context should be related to the”dignity of life”.If there is no longer any effective treatment to alleviate the incurably-ill patients’unbearable pain,the doctors or families are obliged to let the patients have the right to die with dignity.In fact, it should be seen as immoral for doctors or families to keep the patients alive without the dignity and sanctity of life just as a posthumous existence.
