The Beginning Will Lead To An End

...was taken-back when she assigned us homework; to be honest I was shocked. I didn’t expect us to begin work so quickly. I guess I was a little dumbfounded that this was a different setting from high school (seeing that I only have the class twice a week, it is totally a different setting). After my first day of classes, it was obvious to see why my mother came home stressed out. Attending college makes me appreciate my mother’s hard work. Let me tell you about my mother’s experience so you can get a clear idea of why I am amazed by her strength. My mother went through college for her bachelor’s and master’s degree while she raised four children, she did it at very young age and on her own. She still found time to clean, cook, and spend time with her children. College is hard work alone, without having the pressures of life (like raising children and taking care of your home). Both of my mother’s degrees were a start of an educational experience that led to her graduating and receiving (or achieving) them. She received a bachelor’s degree in Science Education and a master’s degree in the Development of Urban Curriculum. Now three weeks into my first semester I am a little overwhelmed with how much work one has to do. I didn’t think that it would be easy and truly it isn’t. I see how much hard work you have to put into achieving your dreams and goals, it is not a “cake walk” that’s for sure. But in the end of this journey, I too, will be proud of myself (of my accomplishments) like my mother. My college experience has definitely changed my perspective of how strong my mother is.
