"80 percent of Success is showing Up" Woody Allen
...mber “80 percent of success is showing up”. You don’t expect to be promoted at the end of a year if you’ve missed about 30 days of work, or expect to get a raise if you’ve called in sick about 50 times. Success is not something that comes easily, it is not a free gift, success has to be earned, and one must deserve success to get success. When I took classes last semester, out of all the courses I took, biology was one I dreaded most, which was because from the very first lecture day, I disliked the teacher. I would go to class like once in two weeks, I would not bother to get notes from my friends or ask after what I missed. As a result of this I missed so many tests, quizzes, even missed a couple of exams. I very much knew the consequences of what I was doing, but that did not stop me. By the time I realized I was heading straight to failure, it was too late; I could not really make much out of my grades anymore. What point I’m I trying to bring across here, If I had showed up to class regularly, got the notes I missed, or asked after makeup tests or quizzes, I would not have to retake biology again this semester. It all bores down to the fact that “80 percent of success is showing up”. Comparing myself to someone who showed up at every class period, or even missed class and found out what was done, chances are the other party ends up with either an ‘A’ or a ‘B’, while I end up with an ‘F’. When people don’t show up on time or at all where they are supposed to show up, integrity is lost, it shows how unserious one is, and it shows that one is not responsible. The phrase “showing up” does not just mean being in a place where one is supposed to be. It just does not involve being in a place, but more of being in that place with all your heart. There is a difference in people who show up, just because they are required to, and people who show up because they are required to, and also because they love to be there at the particular time. Most likely, one is going to be more successful than the other. When one is suppose to show up at place, and for whatever reasons, you are not able to. It is highly necessary that you call to cancel or reset an appointment. A lot of parents with children in the elementary or middle school, set appointments to meet with their children teachers, often to discuss the well doing of the child. Take for example the child is doing poorly at school, and the parents fail to come to the appointment without calling to cancel or calling to be late, the t...
