The British Empire already had a large navy although Germany wanted to become a major power of Europe, so this immediately brought Germany and Britain into a conflict, and once Germany began expanding their navy, Britain saw it as a threat. Germany and Britain immediately began an arms race, which is a competition between nations to have the most powerful weapons, and build the largest and strongest navy. In 1906, the British introduced the dreadnought, which was an effective battleship, and soon enough the German began building their own battleships. France and Russia also became involved in the race to build the biggest navy because of the increased tension and the high possibility of a war in Europe. The Germans army was not the largest in Europe, although it was easily the best in areas such as training, equipment, and medical supplies.
