The paint frees their conscience and enables them to do whatever they desire without much apprehension. As a result, they successfully captured a mother sow and celebrated with a pig dance. When Simon emerged from the dense forest in the dark, he has been mistaken as the beastie because the schoolboys could only see a dark shadow. With the pig dance and the paint job, the conscience was nowhere to be found, fear replete within each and every one of the boys. As the savagery overwhelmed them, they became hysterical and the unintentional kill took place. Many showed uncertainty and regret after Simon’s death, and the rest just followed Jack blindly. In this stage, the savagery has not devoured them all. From the unintentionally killing, the savagery toughens and later on it evolves into the deliberate murder of Piggy. As it narrated in Chapter 10, Jack and his group raided Ralph’s tribe and stole Piggy’s glasses. They ignored Piggy’s physical conditions and disregarded the further evolvements hereafter. Piggy, Ralph and few others were forced to go to Castle Rock to get Piggy’s glasses back, because without the speckles, Piggy is virtually blind and cannot perform any tasks on his own. Apparently, Jack and his tribe are unconcerned on Piggy’s behalf. They make fun of them and considered them as enemies. They think Ralph’s regulations and the concern of getting rescued is valueless and is of no use. Eventually, they became ruthless and Roger deliberately killed Piggy by pushing a boulder down from above and aimed it at Piggy. The mean and sadistic personality can be evident from this cruel murder. During this period, the savagery had definitely reached to some extent. The most obvious indication that showed the savagery has reached to the full extent is when Jack and his tribe attempted to pursue Ralph and kill him. In chapter 12, Ralph was all by himself with no other support on his side. He’s the only representative of the goodness that subsisted against the savagery.
