This disease is obviously very serious and sad for both the patient as well as their families but I believe it is harder for the families to cope with. I believe the patient is less aware of the reality that is happening to them, while the family is witnessing each and every point of their deterioration. It is good to know that advances in medicine are trying to come up with a cure and or a more effective treatment to this disease. Parkinson’s is also an extremely sad disease. Every time I see Michael J Fox (the actor from “Back to the Future”) I fell profound sadness not only because he has the disease but because he is so young. Not too long ago I watched an interview which he did without taking his medication and you could really see how bad this disease is affecting him. although he has the disease he has not let it stop him and is also an active advocate for finding more effective treatments and hopefully a cure. Another interesting and incredible subject I learned about in this chapter was that of the phantom limb. I had never even imagined that such a thing occurred in people who had lost a limb. This subject proved to me just how incredible as well as mysterious our brains are. It is so strange to even think that your foot could hurt even when you no longer have it.
