Roxanne is placed in the United States in present time. This makes the play more entertaining because we can relate to their culture more. The melody of both movies is extremely different. In the movie Cyrano de Bergerac the director used classical music frequently. The director did this mainly in climaxes to make them more dramatic. Cyrano de Bergerac places strong emphasis on values. The movie suggests that by Cyrano sticking to his values at the expense of his personal desire and his life, Cyrano achieves an ideal, untarnished moral standing. This is because Cyrano dies never have breaking his morals, he lives the way he wants to. Cyrano speaks very grandiloquently often speaking in verse. This is done to make the movie more dramatic and artistic. It also helps Cyrano look more honorable, and sets him up to be admired when he dies. In Roxanne melody is used purely to add to the comedy of movie. Upbeat saxophone music is used throughout the movie. The character Chris/Christian differs greatly in each film. In Cyrano de Bergerac Christian is portrayed a very good looking young nobleman. However, he lacks wit and intelligence. He is new to Paris and to the cadets; he falls in love with Roxanne and joins Cyrano’s company of cadets early in the movie. Christian is really in love with Roxanne, but he has no talents to express his love. Christian also dies with integrity in the war. He is portrayed through-out the whole movie as a decent man.
