...ut the truth lies and should be taken care of but it normally gets overlooked if not getting caught. Enron was the biggest company with 21, 000 employees in more than 40 countries, that’s huge and they got shut down because of what they did and the people that were innocent lost their jobs. The people who were innocent didn’t deserve to lose their jobs but because someone had to be immature and break society’s norm they indeed lost their jobs. Another big example that is taking place in today’s society is the Martha Stewart case. Martha sold stock in a company that was about to go down before anyone else knew except her close friends, no one knows why she sold, whether or not she had a tip or an educated guess guiding her, no one knows. I do know that she had friends in high places and her friends are believed to have told her this information and thinking that she wouldn’t get caught. Because of what happened, Martha Stewart was placed in jail for 5 months, is this enough? I don’t think that this is enough because what she did was wrong and she got caught, she should pay the consequences, I am sorry, 5 months behind bars is not enough but the court system thought it would be, so who am I to argue. Business Ethics is a broad topic and a lot to cover but I cover an awful lot and I am excited to see what happens and what I decide to do for my paper. It is a difficult topic to discuss because everywhere there is some sort of ethics reform going on without anyone knowing it and it might not make the news and the reason being for that is because they didn’t get caught. The reason for them not getting caught is because they are sneaking or it’s not a big enough company for anyone to realize anything bad is going on. This is a serious issue and shouldn’t go un said but this is America and a lot goes unsaid and no one will ever listen to little old me. I wish I can say something but this is why I argue this point of view is because it goes unsaid and no one looks at it as anything bad unless you get caught. Business is like top in the world, anywhere you go, there will be businesses to choose from. Business ethics is another matter. When working in a business you have to be careful with what decisions are made and what choices have to be made to keep your position at that particular company. The next time you are faced with an ethical crisis, ask yourself the following questions: How will it affect my career, my future and my status in the community? Would I like my actions on the front page of the national newspaper? What would my peers think? What are the penalties if I break the rules? Those are all questions that you have to ask yourself when coming to work and being tempted with a hard decision that can cause your job and more judicial consequences if necessary.
