...led to see if anyone around would get the doctor. No one would help me because they were all afraid, so I dragged Wild Bill into the shade and ran to the doctor. When I got back with the doctor, Wild Bill was in very bad shape indeed. There was blood all around him. The doctor fixed him up, then remarked to me, "You were just in time. If he had been in that condition much longer, he would have died. Even so he'll be out of action for a while." Once Wild Bill was back in action he thanked me greatly and made me his junior partner. I was so honored to be the partner of the famous Wild Bill! My first adventure with Wild Bill was on the Pony Express. Since Wild Bill became a Pony Express rider, I became a worker at one of the rest stations. It was so much fun; we got to raise the horses and had plenty to eat. However, I had to be really quick at getting a horse ready for the rider and occasionally we had Indian attacks! When that happened, everyone got rifles and took positions. Usually we scared them off but once one of our men got shot. It wasn't too hard to take care of the wound. And every now and then Wild Bill rested at our cabin. When he did, we talked a lot. From what I heard from him, there were many, many more dangers for the Pony Express riders. He had had many adventures himself, outrunning Indians and riding through horrible storms. Wild Bill was so amazing. Another time his friend, Buffalo Bill threw his hat into the air. Wild Bill shot at it and when the hat came down it had evenly spaced holes in its rim. After a while we left the Pony Express and went to work on the Santa Fe Trail. Wild Bill was very quick at going through the twisting, dangerous turns of the Santa Fe Trail in a wagon.
