... starting off.... The medical world is unable to help children with their migraines because treating then is extremely tough when they are under the age of 18. Everything about migraines is the same no matter what your age. The difference came in when the doctors try to treat children, anyone under 18 and adults. Migraines are a severe recurring headache, usually affecting one side of your head. Nausea, vomiting, and visual disturbances often accompany them. Migraines can occur at any age, but it’s easier to give adults the painkillers or migraine medication. Unfortunately, migraine medications are not for the treatment of people under the age of 18. As a migraine has commenced, you will often note severe irritation and pain from bright lights. Your eyesight may change from the pressure and you may suddenly get spots or lines in front of your eyes. Nausea is the main symptom when suffering from a migraine. By simply eating something bland, you can take that away. Along with nausea, you will have an aversion to food. Your migraine headache can get so bad with the nausea; it will make you feel sicker by seeing or even smelling food. One of the key elements of a migraine headache is a blood flow change in the brain. The nervous system is triggered, such as by stress, and that creates spasms in the nerve rich arteries at the base of the brain. Migraines occur when the blood vessels expand, that happens because of changes in the nervous system. Pressure can also be caused because of anxiety. People need to find a way to cope with the anxiety they have. A delay or missed meal can also be the cause of a headache. One of the main keys fir eating is to never skip breakfast and to eat appropriate foods. Certain types of foods are the trigger of over 20% if most people. The most common foods are: chocolate, cheese, and citrus fruits. They are referred to as the three C’s. Alcohol is another trigger as well. In order for you to help yourself with medications it is necessary to take the medication as soon as you know a headache is coming on. The reason of this is because our stomachs are less active during a migraine; therefore the medicine will not flow through your nervous system. The best thing that you could possibly do for yourself when you have a migraine is to rest. Sleep of a couple hours if you can, but is u cant just do small tasks. “When migraine sufferers are asked if they think there is a social stigma associated with migraines, the great majority says yes.”(1) Most people do not call into work when they have a migraine because most people (their boss’s) think that migraines are nothing. Because they go to work, when they have a headache, they are overly exhausted when they get home, so they end up canceling all of their after-work activities. “Many people also say that they keep working because they don’t feel that others take migraines seriously.” (2) This is one-way peoples personal lives are impacted by migraines. Keeping a diary is of great use in order to keep track of what triggers your headache. In the Journal you should put your every movement from the time you wake up, till’ you go to sleep.
