Breaking the Rules

And Shortie liked to have a few beers with my mom on Fridays as well as just sit around and gossip about what was going on in the trailer park that week, and this Friday was no different, other than the fact that me and Terry were a little bored with some spring fever, since spring had arrived and the sun was finally out. Me and Terry were just sitting around her trailer watching TV. while her mom was at my trailer doing her normal Friday thing with my mother. Terry had decided she wanted to go to the store. I tell Terry “All right lets go”. I figured we were going to walk the whole three blocks to the Stop and Go, when she says “Alright, let me leave my mom a note.” I watch Terry write her mom the note and in great big letters she writes “Me and Marlo went to the store.” Then in very tiny letters she writes “we took the car.” Then Terry says “that’s just so she can’t say we didn’t tell her. This struck me as funny because I knew Terry couldn’t drive and I only had a general idea about driving from my dad trying to teach me and being only fifteen neither one of us had a drivers license, but Terry wanted to take her moms car so out the door we walk, she hands me the keys because she figures I could drive better than she could. After starting the car Terry say “I wanna go downtown.” And me, I’m flexible, so we head on down the road the four miles to the big town of Shelton, We didn’t quite make it to down town, we were going down the hill into town when Shortie and my mother caught up with us. They come driving up behind us flashing their lights and honking their horn. We knew we had to turn around and head back home. So once we hit the bottom of one hill we headed right back up another to get back home, me driving Shorties car and riding those brakes like an old lady with Terry in the seat beside me crying. Once we got back Shortie had set us down in the backseat of her car and proceeded to yell at Terry more than me, probably because Terry is the one who wrote the note and knew where Shortie had hid her keys, she only yelled at me for riding the brakes so hard, but at fifteen what did I know about driving?
