He knows everything about the character and we feel as if we are listening to the characters own thoughts because of this. The narrator adds his own thoughts and opinions to the narration. The narration is told in a train of thought sequence, with the sentences kept short. The narrator tells things as he sees them. ' I watched him step out and dry himself..' There is no direct speech in the story. This is mainly because there is only really one character although the narrator becomes a character in his own right too. There is no real need for any dialouge in the story. The times which the story takes place are mixed. It begins with the character in media res, at the scene of his crime, then flashes forward to him at home after the crime has been committed.
