Without enough free time a person is at risk for stress related illnesses, which could be life threatening. There is some definite skill involved in becoming a good procrastinator. First, you will need to master the art of excuse making. Excuses are a vital part of a procrastinator’s day-to-day life. For example, if you have a test on Friday and you are informed on Monday, don’t waste time studying throughout the week. Tell yourself that studying on Thursday night will allow you to focus on your other schoolwork. Plus, the information will be fresh in your memory on Friday morning. If you can use excuses like that to convince yourself that putting things off until later is okay, then your on your way to becoming a good procrastinator. You will also have to learn self-control. You need to know when and when not to wait to the last minute. For instance, if there is a football game on T.V. and your pregnant wife is going into labor, you can probably make it to half time before you absolutely have to get her to the hospital. On the other hand, if you are on a busy freeway and wait until the last second and cut off traffic to get to your exit, you’ll probably cause a wreck or road rage.
