One of which resulted in Newton's going to prison for the murder of a patrolman. While some members of the party were guilty of criminal acts, the group was subjected to police harassment that sometimes took the form of violent attacks, prompting congressional investigations of police activities in dealing with the Panthers. Black Americans have the right to protest for what they think is unfair for them. Encyclopedia Britannica is a reliable source because it is in the UHD library system. Also, the prose was very understandable, and the background was very clear. Besides, vocabulary words were helpful because there were links, and clicking on them definition appears. It also has factual information, which means that there are no opinions in the prose, just facts. In general, it gives me the information I needed to understand more about the Black Panthers Party. This online source was very effective, and Cleaver also reinforces the information stated in the Encyclopedia. Cleaver expresses that Seale believed that “[Panthers] must continue the struggle for human liberation […] and they need to create a broader paradigm of revolutionary humanism” (10). This means that Black Americans have to defend their rights and do whatever is necessary to safeguard their democracy as citizens of United States. The Party had very clear their objectives: · To put forth a vision of a new and just society. · To build a revolutionary infrastructure. · To engage in protracted revolutionary struggle. This shows what panthers expect from their work in the movement, and how they plan to make these objectives become true. Similarly, women also played an important role in the Black Panthers Movement, such as Angela Davis. They were seeking opportunities in their economic activities, their personal lives, and politics. Cleaver states that women were capable to held position of power, and they simply had to do their work as men do (43). Women need to have the opportunity to show their skills, and demonstrate that they can do their labor effectively. This also was a trustworthy source because it has index, footnotes, and appendices, which add more information to the book. Besides, it has bibliographical references.
