Verbalizing her feelings to an active listener would be very beneficial for her. To further asses her situation and the severity of her depression I would ask the following questions: 1. What is you major concern when you feel depressed? 2. What types of activities make you feel better? 3. How is your sleep and the quality of your sleep at night? 4. Do you have any dreams? If so, are the good dreams or are you having nightmares? 5. How is your appetite? 6. What kind of books do you like to read? 7. What would you like to talk about? 8. What wouldn’t you like to talk about? 9. What kind of movies do you like to watch? I would ask the patient how you felt staying home by yourself and what was bothering you. Is there anything you would like to talk about? In this case a lot of factors can interfere with effective patient care. For example, isolation, un-relaxed and unstructured environment, lack of emotional support, lack of communication and lack of anti-anxiety medications.
