...hops, the ones with artsy cappuccinos that make you jumpier than a ping-pong ball and underground indie music that sounds like an epileptic hyena having sex with a porcupine. We talk about poetry and love and how the music speaks to us and sings of our angst. But these days, we have temporarily put aside all things poetic and argue intelligently about hard politics -- about Arroyo and Arroyo and Arroyo. We have exhausted the topic, I think. I’m exhausted. My mother teaches development communication. A militant idealist, she won’t like my saying this, but I think President Arroyo should stay. This comes from a cynical perspective, but all politicians cheat -- this one just got caught. I didn’t vote for Ms Arroyo. I didn’t vote for anybody. Maybe what’s wrong is not how the government is being run or who is running it. Maybe it’s who is being run that’s the problem. Us, maybe? That makes more sense than this endless over-analysis of our politicians. We must be perverts. We feel bad about ourselves if we can’t find a hot controversy. We have grown so accustomed to watching impeachment processes and protest rallies and all other forms and manner of conflict, that we feel less than human without such things.
