Freudian psychology emerged out of a societal experience charred by a disintegrated family system and should best be applied in just such a scenario. It is because Islam and some other eastern religions do not consider women equal to men and suggest restricting them within the boundaries of home that the family system has survived so successfully in the east as compared to west. While domestic violence and child molestation are all realities, they aren’t nearly as widespread as some westerners argue they are and the consequences are not even one percent that horrific. I guess when western scholars look at the east in that context; they are looking out of the lens of their own experience. In a society, where the concept of family is such a thin veil for the actual non-existence of just such a concept, that the state doesn’t even trust parents with their children, childhood traumas must definitely be the biggest psychological problems scarring people’s lives.
