... is in love with so deeply. Mma Ramotswe’s love life started at a very young age. She attended Sunday school where a boy was trying to attract her attention by unzipping his pants and pointing to his private parts. When Mma Ramotswe grew older she found a man and eventually married him. They stayed together for some time and one day he decided that he was going on a trip and never came back. In the society where Mma Ramotswe lives in it is a very male dominated society. Women are expected not to move on and stay widows the rest of their lives. When Mma Ramotswe decided to make her own detective agency she was skeptical because women in her society do not just start up businesses without male influence. Mma Ramotswe is a big, lovable, and trustworthy woman. She is very hard working and eager to get things done. Throughout the book you see her grow as a detective. In the beginning it seems that Mma Ramotswe has trouble trying to figure out her first cases. As she grows into her work figuring out cases becomes easier for her and she becomes a great detective. A case that I thought was most interesting that Mma Ramotswe figured out was the case of the free loading father. This man came to a widow’s house claiming that he was her father. The women being confused allowed the man in her house. That was what a woman was expected to do when a man came in because of the male dominated society. The man ended up using the women to feed him and take care of him. The women became fed up with the man and went to Mma Ramotswe. Mma Ramotswe watched the man and finally went up to him telling the man to tell her who he really is. The man being scared of Mma Ramotswe tells her that he is an imposter. McCall Smith’s style is very fun and enjoyable. I really like how this author wrote The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. He made the book an easy reader; it’s very easy to follow what is going on.
