...entually reach the North Pole. What he is doing has never been accomplished before and he has this feeling that he is going to be the one to do it. The thought of him being victorious is what keeps him going. He knows that it’s dangerous, but his urge for knowledge seems more important to him. After this introduction of Walton, we learn of another character named Victor Frankenstein. Victor is a failed poet who got in to the sciences and now wants to surge past human limits, find out what the secret of life is, and create a living creature from this. He is also infatuated with the idea that he will be the only person to do this and that if he succeeds, he will have the greatest amount of knowledge in this area; more than anyone else. He also realizes that this extensive awareness is not necessarily natural, and that it could also be dangerous. For both characters, these journeys do in fact prove to become very risky. Because of the idea that the knowledge that both characters wish to obtain has never been done before, the consequences are unknown. No life has been created in a way that Victor creates it and no route has been discovered before Walton. They have no idea what it will take to get there or what will result of it, and for them both, the results are treacherous. Victor’s creation goes around on a killing spree, murdering many people dear to him, and his obsessive hatred toward the monster drives him towards his death.
