America

...wever, when I lived here I knew that not everyone is poor. We don’t hear much about poor people and we don’t know how they live their life. Therefore, Parker explained how she and her kids suffered because of the lack of food, hot water, and generally money. She talked about how her kids were sick and how they could not go to school. She gave many details about her poor life. She also said that the society didn’t help her, by stating: “Poverty is asking for help… You find out where the office is that you are supposed to visit…everyone is busy” (Parker, 2004, P.196). I usually heard that welfares are given to whoever needed it, and the government supports the poor people, but when I read about Parker was ignored; I understood that America is not a “Super country”. I understood that not everyone lives a nice life. Therefore, living in America can be hard like in other country, and people struggle to improve their lifestyle. Hiding the truth made people think that the Indian Americans are fine and have fewer problems than before. In fact, not only Indian Americans, but also others foreigners, experience prejudice, injustice and racism in this country None of the articles I have read showed any reader or me a positive image about America. Even the author Megan McGuire demonstrated that America is not a free country like everyone thinks. She explained how hard was for her to fit in this society. She would have been rejected and became the joke of the school if she talked about her mom’s truth of being gay. She said:” High school was the hardest. I was into all kinds of clubs, but I was afraid everything I had gained socially would disappear if anyone ever found out…” (McGuire, 2004, P. 334). I have a friend named Shumil, who is a homosexual and a foreigner. He has a hard time to live the life he chose, because whenever he showed his homosexuality he got socially isolated. The only way for him to fit in is to pretend being straight. In this case, he satisfies people surrounding him, while him being u...
