...c gap between the rich and poor countries less gaping? Bill Clinton once said, “We are living in a world, where what we earn is a function of what we learn.” Education is the root of all wealth. If these poor countries want to rise up in the worlds economy education is key. Furthermore, if countries like the U.S. and Great Britain are doing well economically, what are they doing right? Could not these poor countries use the systems of the more wealthy countries as a basis for their own? As a whole, despite a countries background, or current economic position, if they want to dig out of the rut they are in, education and assimilation of new ideas is fundamental. Studies show that attending college after highschool on average increases one’s yearly salary by more than 16 thousand dollars. In many poor countries, most children do not even finish 4th grade let alone highschool or college. Making scholastic opportunities available to their young minds, is the first thing that poor countries should do to increase the money coming into their country. Even if job opportunities are not available, educated students will go to somewhere where money and jobs are available and usually send money home to their family still living in the poor country. Even if only a small step at first, bringing education will create better leaders, better ideas, and a brighter future for the originally poor country. The United States started off just as most new countries did with very little money and resources but a will to become batter. Today, the U.S. is one of the richest countries in the world, with many leading companies within it’s boarders and a military to match it’s riches. Why could not Bosnia or Haiti do the same?
