... From there the driver was taken into custody for warrants. After my friend was in custody we were given custody of the truck to take it home. Taking custody of the truck was not a good idea because my other friend and I was just as intoxicated as the one taken to jail and were in no shape at all to drive. Knowing this, more bad judgement was made as we took the truck out of town to pick up more alcohol which was the Martinez 2 worst possible thing we could have done at the time considering we got released with no charge or citation from the police. We avoided going to jail and were given a second chance to get home and away from trouble. After we made the choice of going out of town to a ranch to pick up more alcohol we found ourselves faced with another, but not the last problem in the night. As we were leaving the ranch not wearing seat belts and speeding we hit mud and ruts which caused us to wreck sending my friend and I flying forward causing him to hit his head against the steering wheel and causing me to hit my head against the wind shield. After leaving back on a 4 mile trip back to Alice with the front passenger tire blown out we tried to change the tire but had no spare or tools so late at night. We then took the truck to get washed and used that time to figure out how we were gonna tell my friends parents what we had done and where her son was. Unluckily we encountered the cops a second time but this time I did not find myself leaving home, I ended up finding myself in a jail cell. The police department gave me a citation and arrested me for public intoxication and consumption of alcohol by a minor. This was my first time I had ever been taken to jail. This was not a very good experience. When you go to jail you then realize how much freedom you have on the outside because everything is taken away once you set foot in there. Although I was only placed in a holding cell for the day it was enough time to allow me to think and try and get my head straight. After being in jail for a day I felt suffocated and claustrophobic. It was in jail that I decided that I do not want to be here again so I a had to do something to prevent this from happening again. The time I spent in jail allowed me to realize that what I had done that night was not very smart and very dangerous. Drinking and driving kills so many people and I feel that I was somehow given a second chance because I cheated death in a way.
