Section 2.2 – Promotion As I am running a business, I need to get my company name known to the customers and promote what I am selling. I need to promote my sandwich bar to keep up with any competition and at school this will be the canteen. The canteen has recently updated which is a big problem as they will now be much more efficient and appealing to customers. As my sandwich bar is only just coming into the market, I need to make people aware that my business is here. If people are not aware that my sandwich bar is here, they will continue going to the canteen and my sales at the sandwich bar will be very low. There are various ways that I can advertise, could use above the line promotion which would be through television, magazines, newspapers, radio ect. But I have decided that advertising above the line will cost a lot more than I can afford so I will advertise via posters and displays which will be low cost but be sufficient to get my name known throughout the school. This is known as below the line promotion. I have looked at how bigger and more successful sandwich bars like Subway advertise and I found that they use above the line promotion and use mainly billboards and posters to get their name known but the posters are usually advertising new products. I will use this type of advertising so I will advertise products not just the company name. There are a number of factors I need to consider for advertising, which are the competition and how the are advertising, the canteen does not need to advertise much because they have no competition so I do not need to use a lot money to advertise, which is good because I only have a limited budget. I have decided I will be promoting my business is various ways which include an announcement in assembly which will make the whole year group aware my sandwich bar is open. Also an advert is the outlook will advertise to parents who may give their child money to but a sandwich from my sandwich bar. Also set the computers wallpaper as an advert for my business so everyone who goes on the computers will be aware that my sandwich bar is open. An advantage of using the computers is that everyone in the school (accept some 6formers) use the computers in their ICT lessons so this will been seen by everyone at least once a week. Section 2.3 – Placement I know need to decide where my sandwich bar should be situated. While deciding this I needed to consider a few point such as; • Where is most suitable • Where the most amounts of people will be walking to see my stall • Where is easy to set up the bar With consideration of these points I have decided that the most suitable place for my sandwich bar is by the raised area outside the science block under the tree. I think this is a good place because a lot of people passed there to get to the field at lunch and break so they may see the sandwich bar and be tempted to buy something, and people who are going to the canteen will see my sandwich bar first and may buy from me before the canteen. Also it is a shaded area because of the tree so the sandwiches will be kept cool. The advantage of being close to the canteen is that pupils will be going to the canteen for lunch so I will have a lot of pupils heading in my direction looking for food/drink and will hopefully like what I am selling and buy from me instead of the canteen.
