Besides, you can’t trust everything you are shown, because journalists often juggle with the facts to attract as much viewers as possible to rise a channel’s rating. You can face brutality, numerous murders, floods of blood while watching TV. The films shown are either old and uninteresting or cut and dried Hollywood action films. In Russia we have a wide range of channels – there are channels for youth, for example, STS and TNT that show a lot of talk shows, reality shows and game shows, channels showing news, documentaries and serious films for elder people, such as RTR, and particularised channels such as 7TV that shows only sport events. Moreover, some international channels are available in Russia: MTV, EuroNews, Deutsche Welle. Programmes offered by different channels vary greatly. There are serious political programmes where national problems and the prospects of life in our country are discussed as well as boring talk-shows where invited second-rate stars plough the sand.
