class observation & parents teach
...st sent out 1st. report card the prior week. All my meetings were calm and productive. The prime concern of my senior parents was the college application process. One senior’s father met with me because his son was recently suspended. One of my sophomore parents came to discuss new and recent troubles in the household. One of my male freshmen came with his mom and outside social worker. They came with a release form, so that the social worker from the outside agency can contact me at any given time and I can discuss his currant grades with her. Overall all my night was successful. I chose to observe an English 9 class second period on Friday Dec.2, 2005. At Cardinal Spellman, 2nd period runs from 9:36 to 10:16 am. There were 30 students present, 2 absent from this classroom. For the purposes of confidentialiy I will not choose to call the teacher I observed Mr. Jones. Mr. Jones waited at the doorway of his classroom and greeted students as they entered. He told them to take their seats and they were alll seated by the second bell. Mr Jones began with an intro to the kids by showing and reading the homework assignment on the board. Homework assignment included : For them to study units for a vocab quiz on Mon. and to work on a critical lens essay. Following this, Mr. Jones did a morning prayer with his students. The prayer was nicely worded and gave the kids a chance to say aloud any persons in which they prayed intintions for. It thought that was a nice touch as well. Next Mr. Jones checked to see if they had theri books with them. Told them to hold up their copy of The Great Gatsby.Apparently, this class had just finished reading about the puntan ages and specifically The Cruicble.
