...t. Jake Hoyt of Training Day played by Ethan Hawke I believe follows these guidelines. Throughout the movie, he is the symbol of self control and civility in the jungle that is L.A. Given that he is being compared to corrupt cops and gang bangers, he still never gets out of line with anybody. Even when Jake Hoyt is kicking ass he does not kill, instead asking for justice to the perpetrators. Even at the end, when Hoyt has a chance to kill Alonzo, his partner who backstabbed him, Hoyt instead decides to walk away, leaving Alonzo to his own fate. This shows his loyalty and respect for justice as he knows he is not the one that should kill Alonzo (unarmed at the time), but rather it is not Hoyt’s responsibility for the fate of Alonzo.
