The book and the movie mainly focuses on Sonnier and shows his emotional feelings, this makes the audience begin to feel remorse for Sonnier. If “Dead Man Walking” were to focus more on the lives of the families how had a someone killed, the audience would hold a much stronger grudge on Sonnier. In deed, the movie and the book touched mostly on the Pat Sonnier and his way of life, this causes the audience to grow attacted to Sonnier and somehow feel he is partial innocent. Dead Man walking often focuses on the Prison systems and the people who operate it. It gives the idea that the prison systems are operated poorly and not efficient. It also states that the execution process is not humane and is unfair for the convicted prioners. Prejean confronts the head of Department of Corrections and talk to him about the Process of the executions. She comes up with the idea that the process is wrong and could be better. Prejean states that there should be other sentences rather than death, meaning life in jail without parole. A convicted person would be more happier if he would to be giving life in jail after murdering or raping an innocent person. The victims family would be more scared knowing that the murderer of their child is still alive and could possibly escape out of jail and do more harm. Prejean often talks about the guards at death row, and talks to them and ask what they think about the exection process. Most of them somewhat agree with Prejean about how it is unfair. Being a guard, and having to do these responsibilities for the execution would be hard on just about everyone in this country. It would be very un-common to find a guard who has to do these duties, to say he does not mind what he is doing. Both the movie and book, portray that our current prison systems and our execution process is not operated correctly. Dead man walking points out that our current capital punishment system in ineffective and inhumane, doing so it does not point out anything positive about our capitial punishment system. Throughout the story, Prejean is confronted about the ways our system works. Before not knowing Sonnier and being involved in his case, she knew very little about criminal justice system.
