John Locke

...I think that he refers to our dreams and nightmares that we experience when we are asleep. This tells that Locke believes that human’s do have dreams, but he also states in this section that Castle 2 who are we to say that dreams are not real. Yes we might of seen it while we were a sleep, but we still saw it anyway. However he also says, “I do not say, there is no soul in a man because he is not sensible of it in his sleep; but I do say, he cannot think at any time, waking, or sleeping, without being sensible of it.” I believe that he is trying to explain that a human dream is real, but also human’s don’t think when they are awake too. This brings up so many other possibilities. One is what are we doing when we are awake then. All that needs to be done in a day requires some sort of thought. Driving a car, making breakfast, going to school, working, and yes sleeping, because when we dream, we think. What I think Locke is trying to say though, is that man is not “sensible of it”, by this he means that human’s don’t really have any valuable thoughts in there minds, but I disagree. You can now question all the thought that man has done over time, all the science, all the math, and say that that was not “sensible” thought, well I think that would open up a huge debate with the current great thinkers of the world today. I also believe that Locke is saying that humans should stand back and look at what we think about, be it in our sleep or be it when we are awake, that we should try and understand what we were thinking about. I then propose that we should then think about our thinking, because then our thoughts will be ‘sensible’. This is because, he has a problem about non-sensible thought, and if we are thinking, and trying to understand our own thoughts and processes, then aren’t our thoughts sensible then. Locke’s ideas and papers are great and known across all literary circles around the world. However, one must argue what he is commenting on here. What does he mean about a man not being sensible? How does he explain this and to what extent do we, as Castle 3 readers should accept his idea and belief on this? Well what Locke is saying might come across as believing because of his astute command of the English language. I for one can’t understand that a man or woman, when they dream is not creating good if not great ideas in their heads. Here is an example. I’m a swimmer and one night, before a race, I tried to think how I could beat my upcoming opponent. After trying several thoughts in ...
