China Power Market

...ual rate of 10.8%. Load capacity in 1949 was just 1850MW and by 1999 had risen to 294,000MW. By the end of 1998 power generation in China reached 11,577mil kWh, second highest in the world. The following charts illustrate the chronological development of China's power industry through installed capacity, transformer capacity and net length. The installed power generation capacity of East china and the Southern four provinces exceeds 40,000 MW. Figures 1.21 and 1.22 show the 1998 installed capacity and power generation of the nationwide power nets. In addition to the inadequate coverage of the current power net, the infrastructure already in place is also severely flawed. Particularly in urban areas where power net construction has lagged behind the growth in city populations, the grids lack the ability to modulate power consumption, causing difficulties during peak power periods. Approximately 10-30% of power net equipment (cables, lines and wires) has been run for more than 40 years. Even in developed areas of China equipment failure is commo...
