Finally, communication also flows through chain of command in a pending disciplinary action from hiring managers. While managers prepare a disciplinary report, employees have the ability to either appeal the disciplinary action or take the chain of command approach to resolving issues and conflicts. Organizational Diversity Diversity Diversity is the compilation, of diverse cultures, races, backgrounds and country of origin, to fulfill one goal or one purpose in an organization. Avnet set up a Diversity Council in August, 1996. Their Diversity Management process allows them to benefit from the talents of every employee at Avnet to realize their goal of becoming the industry's provider and employer of choice. The Diversity Council's Mission Statement is: "To build a high performance work environment in which individual differences are respected and valued, opening the way for more participation and greater job success for all employees."(Avnet, Inc.) The Diversity Action Team is a strategic link between Avnet employees and the Diversity Council. Members help spread information about activities involving the diversity initiative throughout all levels of the organization. Specifically their function includes: • Supporting the communication of Diversity Council programs in their location. • Contributing to an environment that supports the Diversity Council's objective of maximizing their strength through their differences. • Providing ideas to the Diversity Council to help build strategies to achieve the objective above. • Share success stories with the Diversity Council that celebrate diversity in the workplace It’s no secret that Avnet has quickly become a global company, with global reach into areas all over the globe. At the same time, their customer and supplier partners have expanded globally, requiring global ordering, quoting, sales and business processes. “To compete globally, Avnet must embrace global ideas and programs, which requires embracing diversity.” (Brian Hilton, President of Electronic Marketing). Avnet employees in each geographical area must realize their impact to each other and the other geographical areas within Avnet, and be able to leverage and maximize their partner relationships within areas and across areas. Embracing diverse ideas from other geographical regions increases Avnet's chances for relating to customers and suppliers. Supporting Diversity Treating each individual fairly is a component of Avnet Integrity value statement. This includes how they recruit, select, train, promote, and compensate based on merit, experience, and other work-related criteria. “We do not discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, color, ancestry, national origin, sex, marital status, religion, age, mental or physical disability, medical condition, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other grounds prohibited by applicable local law.” (Avnet Council) Equal opportunity can only be achieved through leadership, commitment and implementation of Avnet's Diversity Initiative.
