...an be seen in 2331 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church when it is said: “Creating the human race in his own image..God inscribed in the humanity of man and woman the vocation, and thus the capacity and responsibility, of love and communion.” Both male and female were given equal dignity, each in a different way. All persons should accept their sexuality, which grants them the ability to love, and procreate-to become one in communion in marriage and proliferate. Sexuality should be part of a special lifelong relationship with another being in order for it to become truly personal. Thus every human has been created from this. Chastity is when both sexuality and bodily and spiritual unity are bonded together. All those baptized take a pledge to live a life of chastity (within their own appropriate state of life). Christ is the perfect embodiment of chastity. A chaste person preserves his/her integrity, and also the integrity of life and love. A chaste being must take part in self-mastery. “The alternative is clear: either man governs his passions and finds peace, or he lets himself be dominated by them and becomes unhappy (CCC 2339).” The cardinal virtue of temperance is a part of chastity since passions must be controlled reasonably throughout all stages of life; it is a constant effort. It also involves the right to information that respects the morality of humans. Chastity should be followed in a way appropriate for your circumstance in living. Chastity adheres to spouses, widows, and virgins. Those engaged should live in continence and grow in devotion, respect, and hope. Chastity has many offenses against it. Lust is one. It is desire for sexual pleasure and does not respect procreation and communion. Masturbation is also an offense. It is stimulating the genitals solely for sexual pleasure. It is not part a sexual relationship that revolves around self-giving and procreation, as seen in 2352 of the CCC. Immaturity, “force of the acquired habit,” and social or psychological factors should be taken into account. Fornication also violates chastity. It is, as the CCC says in 2353, “a carnal union between an unmarried man and an unmarried woman.” Pornography is also a serious offense. It takes the intimate, sexual acts of partners and exposes it to a third party. It depraves the meaning of the act and hurts all those involved because they made into merely objects of pleasure and profit. Civil authorities should discourage the production of pornography. Prostitution is another grave offense. It hurts the dignity of the person and makes them a simple tool of sexual pleasure, and the one who pays violates the sanctity of his body. However, impoverishment, blackmail, and pressure should be considered. Rape is a great wrongdoing that violates chastity. It is the forcing of sex by someone. It scars the victim and hurts the respect, freedom, and integrity which everyone is entitled to. Homosexuality is the sexual attraction between two members of the same sex. The Scripture sees acts of homosexuality as a sin. They do not have sexual complementary and so the gift of life escapes them. They are called to chastity. Still, those with homosexual inclinations should be accepted and respected and not discriminated against. Sexuality should be expressed between a married man and woman. It becomes a sign of their spiritual communion. God has intended for spouses to experience pleasure (but with temperance). The physical union expresses a spiritual union that both does a good for the couple and gives life. It is important that fidelity and fecundity are a part of the picture. The two spouses vow to...
